Officials greet Vietjet’s inaugural Hanoi-Melbourne flight
Edited by Travel Weekly

Vietjet’s inaugural flight from Hanoi to Melbourne landed on Tuesday, 4 June, at Melbourne Airport.

Melbourne-Hanoi is Vietjet’s sixth route connecting Vietnam and Australia. With two round trips every Tuesday and Saturday using modern wide-body Airbus A330 aircraft, Vietjet continues to facilitate travel between Australia and Hanoi more conveniently than ever before.

Vietjet offers a premium Business Class with an exclusive check-in line, priority lanes, business lounges, an authentic hot and fresh dishes served throughout the flights, and up to 60kg of checked baggage plus a golf set, a private cabin and 180-degree flatbed seats. From now until 14 June, Business Class fares are at their best with a 50 per cent discount with the promo code SBJUNE50.

Meanwhile, passengers booking Eco tickets starting from AU$199 all-in one-way, on routes between Vietnam and Australia until 10 June, 2024, with a complement of an additional 20kg checked baggage and a hot meal. The availability of discounted seats varies depending on the route and travel dates.

The official launch ceremony was attended by Natalie Hutchins, MP, Minister for Jobs and Industry, Minister for Women, and Minister for Treaty and First Peoples of Victoria, Melbourne International Airport chief of aviation Jim Parashos, and Vietjet vice chairwoman Nguyen Thanh Ha and Vietjet vice president Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh.

“Since Vietjet’s first flight to Australia in April 2023, we have continuously expanded our network connecting the five largest cities in Australia: Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide with Ho Chi Minh City,” Vietjet vice president Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh said.

“The Melbourne – Hanoi route launched today further proves our commitment to development by continuing to expand our network and providing quality services between Australia and Vietnam, meeting the demand of locals and tourists.

“With this new route, we believe Vietjet will further grow in the Australian market. We are proud to launch this new route and hope to bring opportunities for Victoria tourists to explore Vietnam and all destinations on our network with 168 routes across Vietnam and internationally.”

The launch ceremony for Vietjet’s new Hanoi-Melbourne route is held in Melbourne, June 4, 2024.

Melbourne Airport Chief of Aviation Jim Parashos said the Vietnamese market growth had been one of the silver linings coming out of the pandemic.

“The huge growth in the Vietnamese market has been made possible by new air services agreements negotiated by the federal government that have provided capacity ahead of demand,” he said.

“The increased competition and capacity in the market delivers benefits to passengers in the form of cheaper fares, but also provides exporters with access to high value markets. Vietnam is one of the fastest growing economies in the region and a key trading partner with Australia, here at Melbourne Airport Vietnam sits in our top ten export market with almost three million tonnes of local products being loaded onto aircraft during the last 12 months.

“VietJet’s Hanoi service will complement its current five times a week service to Ho Chi Minh City and will give Victorians new connections into countries as well as other Asian destinations. We know there will be two-way demand for this service, Vietnam is in our top ten outbound destinations, meanwhile the inbound market is supported by strong trade, business and leisure demand,” he added.

The Melbourne-Hanoi route is expected to attract investment and boost demand for tourism, overseas study, family visits, and work opportunities in Victoria. It will contribute to the state’s goal of tourism recovery to pre-pandemic levels by 2025 and achieve the targeted tourism revenue of USD 53 billion and tourist arrivals of 111.8 million by 2028.

Vietjet will launch the Sydney-Hanoi route on 8 June 2024, following the Melbourne-Hanoi route. Vietjet currently operates 58 weekly flights connecting Australia and Vietnam.

All passengers flying with Vietjet will also receive free SkyCare travel insurance, covering benefits from health and medical expenses due to accidents and illnesses to flight-related issues (such as flight delays, baggage delays, lost baggage, and personal documents), and 24/7 global medical and travel assistance services. Additionally, passengers flying with Vietjet this summer can earn points and redeem rewards with the Vietjet SkyJoy loyalty program and participate in lucky draws.

    Conditions apply.
