Cycling through Lăng Cô, an afternoon in a coastal Vietnamese village

Cycling through Lăng Cô, an afternoon in a coastal Vietnamese village
Edited by Travel Weekly

In between the coast of the East Sea and the Annamite Range is Lăng Cô, a coastal village in Central Vietnam that blends sandy beaches with stunning natural beauty and cultural heritage.

    Beach lifestyle

Lăng Cô boasts a 10-kilometre stretch of dreamy beaches with white sand and crystal blue waters and is considered one of the most beautiful coastal regions in Vietnam.

Unlike more commercialised beaches and regions in the country, Lăng Cô’s beaches feel untouched and offer a quieter beach experience for all who arrive. Water sports are a plenty here with perfect flat conditions in summer perfect for stand-up paddle boarding and wake surfing while winter months provide waves for surfers!

Beyond a day at the beach, Lăng Cô is surrounded by gorgeous greenery and is a great destination for nature lovers. The Bach Ma National Park, located nearby is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna including the red-shanked douc langur, a brightly-coloured endangered monkey.

The Lập An Lagoon is another natural marvel in the area. Known for its picturesque scenery, especially at sunset, the lagoon is also a source of local livelihood, with many families engaged in oyster farming.

    Immense cultural heritage
Lăng Cô’s cultural significance is highlighted by its proximity to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites, each offering a unique glimpse into Vietnam’s storied history.

Hue: Once the imperial capital of Vietnam, Hue is known for its historic citadel, palaces, and tombs of Nguyen emperors. HOT TIP: Check out the Perfume River which adds a romantic touch to the city’s ambiance.

Hoi An: A charming town famous for well-preserved ancient architecture, lantern-lit streets, and vibrant markets. Hoi An’s Old Town is a melting pot of cultural influences, reflecting its history as a bustling trading port.

My Son Sanctuary: A look into the past life of the ancient Champa civilisation where travellers can explore a number of abandoned Hindu temples built between the 4th and 14th centuary.

    Explore by bike

Laguna Lăng Cô, an all-encompassing resort and golf facility offers a range of excursions that will immerse any traveller into the tapestry of Lăng Cô.

Options range from ATV and jet ski safari’s to walking tours and cycling adventures.

On a recent stop through the region, we were lucky enough to try out the ‘Cycle Easy’ tour through Binh An (which translates to peaceful).

To begin our six-kilometre journey, we explored fishing villages of Canh Duong and Binh An and enjoyed a short boat ride to learn about traditional fishing practices on the Blu Lu River and Chan May Bay.

Next up were the sandy beaches which our mountain bikes made light work of as we soaked up the morning sun and watched as cows strolled nonchalantly past us.

To finish, the tour takes guests through a local community and market where local food and drinks are on offer to quench your thirsts. We enjoyed an ice-cold milk coffee, a famous Vietnamese drink.
