Jetstar’s first flight between Melbourne and Hervey Bay, launched in partnership with the Fraser Coast Council, will take off this afternoon marking the first time any carrier has operated the route.

Using Airbus A320s, Jetstar will offer the service three times weekly creating over 1,000 cheap seats a week. The flights will give Melbournians direct access to the Queensland region, which includes K’gari (Fraser Island).

To celebrate the launch, Jetstar is offering online one-way fares between Melbourne and Hervey Bay from just $151.

Jetstar’s executive manager – customer Jenn Armor said Jetstar was excited to be able to introduce Melburnians to a new part of Queensland.

“We know how much Melbournians love to head North, especially during winter, and we’re looking forward to giving them direct access to a new Queensland destination on our low fares network,” she said.

“Hervey Bay is a bit of a hidden gem for Victorians as there’s never been a direct flight from Melbourne to this part Queensland.

“Aside from being the gateway to K’gari, Hervey Bay offers pristine, calm beaches that are perfect for young families, access to the Southern Great Barrier Reef, and it’s one of the best places in the world for whale encounters.

“We’re excited about the opportunities this new route brings,” Fraser Coast deputy mayor Cr Paul Truscott said. “It’s more than just flights; it’s about forging new connections, exploring new destinations, and inviting southerners to experience the Fraser Coast while giving us the chance to enjoy everything Melbourne has to offer.
