Qatar named ‘worlds best airline’ at 2024 Skytrax Awards, Qantas first Aussie carrier at 24

The Oscars of the aviation industry went down in London overnight as the Skytrax Awards named the best airline of the year as well as its top 100 list and a number of category winners.

Travellers from across the world voted in the largest airline passenger satisfaction survey to determine the award winners, with more than 21 million entries, and 350 airlines featured in the final results.

Award winners were announced at a gala ceremony held on 24 June 2024 at the iconic Fairmont Windsor Park, close to London Heathrow Airport.

Qatar took home the prized number-one airline ranking for the eighth time in the 25-year history of the Skytrax awards.

“This is a remarkable achievement for Qatar Airways to win this World’s Best Airline title for 2024, the eighth time they have triumphed,” Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted said.

“We congratulate Qatar Airways on this success which should be a source of great pride and satisfaction for the airline management and staff.”

In addition to being named the World’s Best Airline 2024, Qatar Airways also scooped the top awards for the World’s Best Business Class, the World’s Best Business Class Lounge and the Best Airline in the Middle East.

The 2023 Airline of the Year winner, Singapore Airlines, was ranked second in the world for 2024, with Emirates in third place, ANA All Nippon Airways fourth, and Cathay Pacific in fifth position out of more than 350 airlines included in the survey results.

Aussie Airlines played second fiddle to Fiji in the APAC region with Qantas placing highest of any of our carriers at 24th, two places behind Air New Zealand 22nd whilst Virgin Australia came in at 46, REX 56 and Jetstar 69.
