Toga Hotels has revealed it will build a fifth Adina Apartment Hotel in Sydney signalling a “new phase of growth” for the brand in Australia.
The $80 million project, in partnership with the Australian Turf Club, will become part of the ongoing redevelopment at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse. Work will begin on the 170-apartment Adina Royal Randwick Racecourse later this year, with completion scheduled for early 2014.
The new four-star property is set to be the hospitality firm’s fifth Adina project in the New South Wales capital. Adina Crown Street in Surry Hills opened in 2010 with work already underway in Norwest and Bondi Beach, scheduled for completion later this year. Another property in Mascot is due to open in late 2013.
“Toga Hotels opened its very first hotel in Randwick exactly 30 years ago,” chief executive Rachel Argaman said. “We are thrilled to play a role in a new era for the area, supporting the Australian Turf Club’s vision of creating Sydney’s premier racing and entertainment destination.”
Tourism Accommodation Australia welcomed the new property as the “perfect example” of a hotel that can be sustained by demand.
“It is designed specifically to appeal to racegoers, has its target patronage in mind, and so is exactly the kind of new facility this city needs,” NSW director Carol Giuseppi said. “We only need new hotels that can be sustained by demand and that is the case here.”
The Adina brand has been rolled out in several European locations, but there are no current plans to see the brand introduced in further Australian cities.
Toga Hotels operates Medina Apartment Hotels in 21 locations across Australia, seven Vibe Hotels and 16 Travelodge properties across Australia and New Zealand.
