AirAsia X has introduced a new "quiet zone" on its long-haul services, strictly off-limits to children under 12.
Rows 7-14 of the economy cabin on AirAsia X A330-300 services to China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Australia and Nepal will now cater for those in search of some "peace of mind", with soft lighting and a child-free policy.
Chief executive Azran Osman-Rani said the new offering would guarantee a "more pleasant and peaceful journey" and insisted that children and their families were not being treated unfairly.
“The airline is not banning kids from travelling, but instead is enhancing the array of product offerings on board to suit its guests' individual needs and preference," he said.
"We also offer three infant bassinets in the other two larger economy cabin sections to cater for families with young children. Hence, offering a fair choice for our guests.”
Travellers can reserve a seat in the zone when making a booking with no additional charges beyond the standard pick-a-seat fee.
