Peru remains the number one South American destination for Natural Focus Safaris but Brazil is “coming up strongly”, the nature specialist has revealed.

Sales and marketing manager Praful Albuquerque told Travel Today the firm is already seeing interest in travel to Brazil “picking up” because of the country’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup in 2014.

Natural Focus is also working hard to “open up” wildlife-rich areas in Brazil such as the Pantanal, he added, with famils a major focus.

Meanwhile, Ecuador remains its second most popular destination on the continent.

Albuquerque reported 11% growth in bookings year on year, coming off the back of a “phenomenal” year which had seen booking numbers rise by 32%.

“It’s been a good year considering the world’s economic problems,” he said.

Around 90% of Natural Focus’ overall bookings are through the trade with mobile travel agents an increasing focus.

“They have the kind of clients which match our profile,” Albuquerque explained.
