The Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) will spend $45 million to transform the city's international airport terminal into a design-led space to welcome visitors to Queensland, its CEO said.

The terminal's overhaul will commence in February, with Queensland based firms Richards and Spence and Arkhefield leading the architectural redevelopment. Work is expected to be completed by mid 2015.

“Most airport terminals are alike, no matter where you are in the world. Few have a real sense of the destination and community they serve. Brisbane is about to break that mould and set a new world-best standard for terminal design,” BAC chief executive Julieanne Alroe said.

“Work has also commenced on the next important phase of the $1.3 billion new parallel runway and more than 50 projects are underway in the broader airport precinct,” Alroe added.
