Starwood Hotels and Resorts has named Brisbane as the next Australian location for its Four Points by Sheraton brand, as the firm inked an operating agreement for a new-build CBD hotel.
The 246-room hotel, slated to open in January 2014, has been heralded as the first internationally branded, new-build property in the Brisbane CBD in more than a decade. It also marks the entry of the brand into the Queensland market.
Matthew Fry, senior vice president acquisition and development, confirmed Starwood had been seeking an opportunity in Brisbane’s “thriving” business district for some time and said the new deal with Queensland developers Felicity Hotel Pty Ltd marks a “significant chapter in the future of the brand in Australia”.
The Brisbane hotel will be the fourth Four Points by Sheraton property in Australia, following the opening of the Perth property in June 2012.
