Tasmania is gearing up for the busiest conferencing period of the year, with an estimated 5160 delegates set to head south in the coming month.
A staggering 21 business events are on the agenda this month, with 18 conferences and events scheduled to take place in Hobart. An estimated 5160 delegates are expected to hit Tasmanian shores during October, injecting approximately $15.8 million to the economy.
Describing the packed calendar as a “bumper month” for business events, Business Events Tasmania chief executive Stuart Nettleford welcomed the flow on effects for the local community.
“It’s not just the accommodation and meeting venues that are going to see huge economic benefits. Restaurants and bars are going to need additional staff, transport operators will be constantly on the move, and even local retailers should see a jump in sales,” he said.
With research suggesting most delegates recommend Tasmania to friends and colleagues as a place to visit, Nettleford expects a wave of new business to flow through the state.
Repeat visitation and MICE tourism are also expected to deliver positive returns, he added.
“Twenty percent of delegates bring a non-delegate with them to a business event, so that’s nearly 6200 visitors utilizing services and purchasing goods throughout the state,” he said.
This month provides an incredible opportunity for businesses to generate positive worth of mouth and secure return visitation.”
The National Family Law Conference will draw the biggest crowd this month, with 900 delegates expected to attend. A 500 delegate event will also be held at the Launceston Country Club.
