Tour prices to Burma have risen by as much as 20% in 2013 as hoteliers capitalise on the surge in demand for the once out of bounds destination.
Wendy Wu Tours general manager Alan Alcock said hoteliers may have been initially “naive” in their pricing but have quickly learned as Burma’s popularity has soared.
The wholesaler re-introduced Burma to its product range this year initially with two departures, and later added six more, all of which sold out rapidly. It has 30 departures in 2013, an expansion which reflects Burma's growing appeal.
“I think hoteliers may have been a bit naive but they have learned and prices next year are about 20% higher,” he said.
Alcock rejected concerns of a shortage of accommodation, but said Wendy Wu was having to secure allocations with deposits months in advance to ensure rooms were not re-sold to other suppliers.
“The hoteliers can be unreliable,” he told Travel Today.
