Expanding China Southern Airlines has signalled its intention to operate an A380 between its Guangzhou hub and Sydney.
President and chief executive Tan Wangeng, who last week revealed the airline will bring the 787 to Australia, confirmed the deployment of the double decker superjumbo on its Sydney service is being explored.
“On our current Sydney route we operate double daily using A330 aircraft and the load factors have been pretty satisfying,” he told media in Guangzhou yesterday. “That is why we are investigating the possibility of using the A380 on this route.”
Should the aircraft be introduced “it will be like operating triply daily services”.
“We have to study if the markets will be big enough to digest this capacity,” Tan said.
