Air New Zealand is pressing ahead with its fight in the fuel surcharge class action with the case likely to be heard later this year.
The latest hearing in the saga was adjourned at Sydney’s Federal Court on Friday until May 30 ahead of a likely full hearing later in 2012.
Two of the other three carriers still involved in the legal wrangle – Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific – are due back in court tomorrow while the case against British Airways will be back before a judge on March 29 when final orders against the carrier should be made.
The UK flag carrier faced more claims from travel agents than Qantas in the five-year-old court battle with approximately 230 individual agencies lodging papers with the court (Travel Today, December 15).
It was around a dozen more than the number lodged against Qantas which paid out $2.1 million.
It remains unclear how much BA will have to fork out.
The Qantas case was regarded as a test with a ruling initially in favour of the carrier overturned on appeal to hand agents a famous victory.
