Air Tickets general manager Russell Carstensen has been handed the task of turning round the fortunes of QBT, the travel management division of Jetset Travelworld Group.

Carstensen will continue to head the air consolidation business but will now take a broader role within the company.

In one of his final decisions as chief executive, Peter Lacaze said QBT can “benefit from the infrastructure and technology that has been developed within Air Tickets”.

QBT general manager David Hughes will report into Carstensen.

Jetset Travelworld’s travel management division, which includes QBT, suffered an earnings before interest loss of $3.3 million in the 12 months to June 30.

Efforts will focus on reducing the cost of servicing QBT’s Government travel contracts. The company will also shed 65 jobs by the end of the year.
