The Australian government's move to establish the world's largest marine reserve in the Coral Sea has been welcomed by UK travel operator Dialaflight as a "positive step" which could strengthen tourism along the Queensland coast.
The proposed plans, announced in late November and currently subject to a 90-day consultation period, would protect an area approximately 989,842 sq km under environmental law.
"If the plans are given the go-ahead, we'd expect tourist numbers in the area to increase," a spokesman for the company said.
"Our customers, who enquire about travelling in Australia, always express an interest in seeing the country's rich wildlife, especially those with young children."
