November saw domestic passenger traffic climb 7.1% year on year to hit 4.97 million passengers although capacity hikes once again outpaced the rise in demand.
The latest government figures showed the number of available seats rose at a greater rate of 9.2% for the month, meaning the industrywide load factor dipped from 81.3% in November 2011 to 79.6% as a result.
Sydney remained the busiest domestic airport with 2.22 million passenger movements, followed by Melbourne with 2.01 million then Brisbane with 1.45 million.
The busiest route was Melbourne-Sydney with 734,270 passengers, up 10.6% on the same month last year. But the route that saw the greatest increase in passengers was Newman-Perth
Meanwhile, Brisbane-Canberra saw the greatest decline, down 9.4% year on year.
