Emirates will cut travel agents commission in Australia next month which the carrier said will bring it in line with competitors.
The base commission on tickets sold and issued in Australia to Asia, Dubai and beyond will fall from the flat 7% to 5% for economy seats and 6% for first and business class sales.
Trans Tasman premium bookings will also earn 6% but economy sales on its Australia to Auckland and Christchurch routes will only earn retailers 3%.
The new levels of pay will come into effect on April 2.
Emirates said in a memo to agents that it remains “committed” to the trade.
“The adjustments are in line with current industry commission levels and are necessary to support the airline’s continued growth in Australia,” the carrier said. “Emirates values the contribution of the Australian travel trade to its business and remains committed to supporting its travel agent partners.”
Emirates Australasia vice president Barry Brown flagged in an interview with Travel Today before Christmas that its commission structure was “constantly under review”.
