Etihad Airways has joined the celebrations of Sydney Opera House’s 40th birthday as one of its Airbus A340-600 performed a low-altitude aerial salute over the world heritage-listed building.
The commemorative flight, EY9240, passed 2000 feet over the venue and along the Sydney Harbour foreshore at 10.50am, and was watched by more than 10,000 people who had gathered for a “Cake and a Song” event to mark the birthday.
“As a partner of Sydney Opera House we are delighted to be part of its 40th birthday celebrations,” president and chief executive James Hogan said.
“On behalf of the Etihad Airways’ 16,500 staff worldwide, I extend our best wishes to the Government of New South Wales, Sydney Opera House Trust, and the people of Sydney on this special occasion.
The airline is the official international airline of Sydney Opera House, with the sponsorship its “most valuable and most significant” arts and cultural investment worldwide.
