Etihad has its sights set on the Australian premium traveller with the official unveiling of its new first and business class lounge at Sydney’s Kingsford Smith International Airport – its first in Australia.

The new lounge, which has been unofficially open since last month, follows swiftly on the heels of the unveiling of new first and business class cabins for its Boeing 787 Dreamliner and A380, both of which will join the airline’s fleet later this year.

Located in Pier C of the terminal, adjacent to Gate 51, the new lounge offers guests an environment inspired by the airline’s flagship lounges in Abu Dhabi.

In Sydney for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, president and chief executive James Hogan described the opening of the new lounge as a “yet another milestone” in the airline’s commitment to Australia.

“It’s all about offering an experience in the lounge that not only sets the tone for but is also consistent with the flight experience ahead,” he said.

“I’m confident the wonderful team of hospitality professionals we have in our Sydney lounge, together with our check-in staff and guest service agents, will ensure we deliver on that promise.”

The 798m2 area is set over two levels with facilities including Apple computers, complimentary wifi, multi-zone electrical and USB power outlets. There are also dedicated male, female and accessible bathrooms with showers, a children’s play room, male and female prayer rooms and a relaxation zone.

Diamond First Class and Pearl Business Class guests and qualifying members of the Etihad Guest loyalty program can access the new lounge along with Virgin Australia Velocity Gold and Platinum members and Virgin Australia Business Class guests flying to Abu Dhabi. Qualifying guests of other codeshare and partner airlines may also use the lounge when flying on Etihad or Virgin Australia-operated Sydney-Abu Dhabi services.

The next 12 to 18 months will see the airline open new lounges Los Angeles, New York (JFK) and Melbourne.
