More Aussies are booking holidays to avoid the post-holiday blues, new research has revealed.
A survey by online retailer Expedia found that three quarters of Australians felt more motivated to return to work with another holiday already booked.
"Heading back to work is that much easier knowing you scored a bargain holiday deal and can now look forward to it," Expedia marketing and communications manager Amee Evans said.
Expedia suggested that the number of Aussies in need of a "light at the end of the work tunnel" was on the up, rising to 73% from 47% and 67% in 2009 and 2010 respectively.
It also reported a 65% increase in traffic to its website and an 88% increase in hotel bookings between December 30 2011 and January 3 2012 compared with the same period last year.
The strength of the dollar came out as the top reason for travel in 2012, followed by the availability of deals. Lack of motivation, a stressful Christmas and the need for a break from family after the Christmas period were also motivating factors.
