New trends are emerging across the travel education sector with growing numbers being seen in the areas of distance education, mature-age students and part time studies.
Head of Southern Cross University's School of Tourism & Hospitality Management Professor Elizabeth Roberts revealed that distance education is a key area on the rise with 30% of travel education students studying online.
“We have seen an explosion of online learning," Roberts told attendees at the launch of the 2014 Avis Travel Agent Scholarship in Sydney on Wednesday.
While this is an important tool for students who live in remote areas to gain an education it also allows for flexible work hours – a huge benefit for students juggling a busy working life with their education.
Another option for those who need flexible hours is part-time study – another rising trend among students.
The number of mature-age students is also growing, as is the number of females with 65% of travel education students in Australia women.
