A growing number of Fiji’s hotels are attempting to tap into the MICE market to drive bookings in the off-peak season, according to hoteliers.
President of the Fiji Islands Hotel and Tourism Association, Dixon Seeto, told The Nibbler’s sister publication, Travel Today, that resorts in key tourism areas were “not saturated” and were looking to the meetings and incentives sector for an additional boost.
Seeto stressed the importance of plans for a casino in Denarau which would offer conference seating for 1500 delegates.
“At the moment, if it’s more than 300 or 400, Fijian properties just can’t handle it,” Seeto said.
MICE is on the agenda for the Musket Cove Resort on Malolo Lailai in the Mamanuca Islands which will open new conference facilities for 100 people in November.
“A lot of people don’t realise that there is more to the islands than just beaches,” sales and marketing manager Kinimerevini Saukuru said. “Now we have more facilities.”
