GCCEC prepares to host major tourism event

More than 300 delegates from Queensland's tourism industry will gather at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre next week to review the state government's 20 year plan to grow tourism numbers.

The second annual event will be attended by state premier Campbell Newman, minister for tourism and major events Jann Stuckey and other key ministers along with other industry stakeholders.

From August 27 to 28, delegates will reflect on the results of the 12-month action plan settled last year, and put them in the context of a longer term agenda, Stuckey revealed.

"The plan outlined more than 30 action items including red tape reduction, encouraging private sector investment, marketing and eco-tourism opportunities and I am pleased to say we are on track to meet all of these," she said.

The DestinationQ blueprint's ongoing commitment to events as a key driver of visitation was welcomed by the event's host venue, GCCEC.

"Business events are a lucrative part of the economy attracting large numbers of delegates that boost and stimulate inbound visitation, domestic spend and employment so if we continue to prove our case we can leverage our industry position to further increase government support," general manager Adrienne Readings said.
