Tourism Accommodation Australia (TAA) has branded Melbourne’s hosting of the Grand Prix at the weekend a “win for tourism” as uncertainty continues to linger over the event’s future.
President of the body’s Victorian branch Peter Crinis said the influx of visitors for the race had significantly boosted local hotels, tourism and the Victorian economy with benefits overspilling to hotel suppliers.
“Apart from the major contribution to hotels’ direct business income and bottom line, the international attention major events like the Grand Prix receive also encourages investment in new hotels for Melbourne,” he said.
It also provided an incentive for existing hotels to renovate and refurbish in order to keep up to “world standards”, he added.
