Greyhound takes on airlines

Greyhound Australia is set to “take on the airlines” as the operator unveiled its first Platinum Business Class coach to operate between Sydney and Canberra.

General manager Kevin Lyons told Travel Today the service’s major appeal was its unlimited, free wifi, on board power plugs and USB connections.

“Air travel results in an awful lot of time being wasted while you could be working,” he said. “This service means you can work without interruptions.”

In addition, the direct city centre to city centre service offered “optimum time efficiency”, eliminating the need for lengthy check-in procedures and cabs to the airport.

And with fares from $36 one-way, the service cost only “a small fraction of airline travel,” he said, with the added benefits of reclining leather seats and extra leg room.

“In short travel sectors this coach is the ultimate way for busy business people to travel,” he said. “It’s quick, it’s convenient and you can stay in touch with the world for the whole journey.”

The service departs Canberra at 6am, arriving in Sydney at 9.15am. The return journey departs Sydney at 4.30pm.

If it proves succesful, the coach firm will look at increasing frequencies and will roll it out across other short travel sectors with Melbourne-Geelong, Sydney-Newcastle, Brisbane-Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast-Toowoomba in the running.
