Mobile Internet is becoming increasingly important for the accommodation sector and is now generating 17% of all hotel queries, according to Google statistics.
Australia has the second highest penetration of mobile in the world and is fastest growing, head of online travel Nikolai Pitchforth told a conference in Sydney.
Wotif.com chief executive Robbie Cooke supported the figures, saying that visits to its mobile site had grown 280%, with bookings up 250%.
The travel website will unveil its new mobile app in the coming months.
Meanwhile, HotelClub launched its mobile app last week and has already handled “a couple of percentage points” of the site’s total transactions, according to president Jeremy Bellinghausen.
