Jetstar has launched its service between Melbourne and Phuket, with its inaugural flight departing Saturday afternoon.
The route opened for sales in September and Jetstar has reported strong forward bookings, with the initial two two weekly A330 flights rising to three in April.
"It's no secret that travellers much prefer flying directly to their destination and that's one of the key reasons we decided to add this new service," Jetstar Australia and New Zealand chief executive David Hall said.
"Phuket has historically appealed to a broad group of travellers," Hall added.
Melbourne Airport chief executive Chris Woodruff welcomed the increased choice for Victorian travellers.
"Phuket's popularity as a holiday destination for Australians is well known and this new direct service will be a great addition for the busy summer holiday period," Woodruff said.
