New data from HotelsCombined has revealed that London is the favourite summer destination in Europe, with accommodation demand in the city increasing 7% from 2013.
The figures were compiled by considering the number of hotel bookings made in European cities over the 2014 summer period from July to August, in order to determine which destinations were most popular amongst travellers.
The following ten cities were the most-booked destinations in Europe:
- London
- Paris
- Barcelona
- Rome
- Dublin
- Berlin
- Amsterdam
- Edinburgh
- Manchester
- Prague
The top four cities maintained their spots for the second year in a row, while Berlin, Prague and Manchester grew in popularity compared to last year.
HotelsCombined global public relations and content manager Alycia Simons said that while Europe welcomes travellers year-round, it’s the high temperatures in summer that continue to draw the most crowds.
“Summer is peak season in Europe and we have certainly seen an increasing number of people making the most of the long days and warm weather,” Simons said.
“Our data shows that the number of hotel bookings in these top ten cities has increased 9% overall when compared to the same time in 2013.”
