Jenny Lourey has quit as senior vice president at Carnival Australia with immediate effect to focus on businesses established by her late husband Wayne Tregaskis.
Tregaskis passed away in January in a tragic boating accident, leaving behind marketing firm s2i Communications, and online insurance firm World Nomads, which he co-founded.
Lourey has been on compassionate leave since, but staff were told today of her decision to quit the cruise firm.
Formerly head of Qantas Holidays, Lourey joined Carnival Australia four years ago. She is credited with being instrumental in helping turn round the fortunes of P&O Cruises.
Carnival Australia chief executive Ann Sherry described her as “vitally important part” of the business.
“Jenny has contributed enormously to the transformation of our commercial capability,” Sherry wrote in an email to staff today.
“A testament to her involvement across a wide range of activities is the double digit growth that Carnival Australia has achieved in all the years she has been part of the team.”
Lourey said that she departed Carnival with “cruising in her blood” and would remain in contact with the business.
“Travel has been at the heart of most of my working life and I plan to maintain this connection in my new business activities,” she said.
She also thanked people for their “best wishes and friendship”.
An external search has begun for a replacement.
