Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group will re-establish a sales and marketing office in Sydney from January 2013, to be headed by regional director of sales Australia and New Zealand, Peter Hession.
The hotel group closed its last Sydney office in 1999.
“It’s certainly a statement of our commitment to the Australian travel industry,” Hession told Travel Today. “Australia is a very signifiant market for us, particularly for our Asian properties.”
While the firm does not currently have any Australian properties, Hession confirmed Mandarin Oriental was “always looking” at future developments.
The office opening coincides with the retirement of Frank Zwarteveen, managing director of Pamela Scott Associates – currently general sales agent for the Hong Kong-based hotel firm.
