Work has begun on the $68 million four star hotel at Sydney Airport’s revamped international terminal, due for completion early next year.
The 317-room hotel, announced by developers the Denwol Group in November, will be operated by Rydges Hotels.
State minister for tourism George Souris, speaking at a ceremony to mark the start of construction, branded the project “a real vote of confidence in Sydney”.
“This hotel meets demand by international tourists as well as business travellers for convenient accommodation at Sydney Airport,” he said.
Sydney Airport chief executive Kerrie Mather said that the new hotel would be “well-placed” to cater for growing numbers of international passengers, with traffic rising 3% to 11.6 million in 2011.
