A new communications program has been launched to update the travel industry about developments in the cruise sector and grow awareness of the positive impact of cruising.

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) today unveiled the "Cruise Forward" initiative which will include a website and a Facebook page to demonstrate the economic and community benefits of cruise, along with its efforts to support the environment and improve the onboard environment.

CLIA president and chief executive Christine Duffy said the initiative aims to show that the cruise sector offers more than just travel and entertainment, but also delivers benefits in terms of the economy and cultural exchange.

"We must do more to share these stories and Cruise Forward will help us do just that and also increase public awareness regarding the industry's extensve commmitment to supporting community partnerships, safeguarding the environment and delivering wide-ranging economic benefits worldwide," she said.

International Cruise Council Australia general manager, Brett Jardine, said the program would showcase the work of the body's members in the local region.

ICCA will become know as CLIA Australasia under changes being rolled out this year.
