Queen Mary 2 yesterday began its inaugural circumnavigation of Australia as the 2,620-capacity liner departed Fremantle.
The 20-day voyage will see the 151,400-tonne liner visit five states and the Northern Territory for the first time. It will arrive back in Fremantle on February 28 before continuing onto Sydney and up to Singapore.
The liner is scheduled to stop in Adelaide on February 11 and again on March 3, Melbourne on March 5 and Sydney on February 13 and March 7. The inaugural Darwin visit is on February 22.
Cunard president and chief executive Peter Shanks said: “Queen Mary 2 turns heads every time she visits and this year will be no different with her historic circumnavigation including four maiden visits to Australian ports.”
The circumnavigation forms part of QM2’s 108-night world voyage.
