A new 97-key serviced apartment hotel will be developed at Melbourne Airport, to be operated by Quest, to cater to growing demand from a variety of companies.
The new property will be built in the airport’s business park precinct and is due for completion in October 2014.
The project will help cater to companies and organisations with operations at the airport, or for those engaged in business with aviation companies, according to Melbourne Airport chief executive, Chris Woodruff.
“Providing more accommodation choice for people who are doing business at the airport, or are undertaking aviation training in the airport precinct will support the future growth of airport and aviation-related businesses in our local region,” he said.
Andrew Weisz, Quest general manager locations, said the investment by Melbourne Airport was proof of strong demand for serviced apartment accommodation at the airport.
“With more than 14,000 people directly employed in airport related roles, and around 200 different businesses operating from the airport precinct, Melbourne Airport is a major centre of employment and economic activity in Melbourne’s North-West,” he said.
Meanwhile, Melbourne Airport continues to prepare its draft master plan which is expected to see annual passenger numbers more than double to 64 million, with jobs directly related to airport operations expected to rise to 23,000 by 2033.
