South African Airways will codeshare on Air New Zealand's new service between Christchurch and Perth from December 2013, putting Africa within easier reach of travellers from the South Island.
Tim Clyde-Smith, SAA country manager Australasia, said the codeshare flight, which will connect with its Perth-Johannesburg service, will enable New Zealand travellers to reach South Africa in just one stop.
"We have seen great interest in travel to South Africa from New Zealand recreational and business passengers and this new initiative will definitely mean less time in the air and one of the most convenient ways to get to the wonders of the African continent," he said.
The twice weekly flights, now available in the global distribution system, will run from early December until at least April 2014, depending on demand.
"This is by far the most convenient way for people to travel from Christchurch to South Africa and onto our comprehensive network in Africa which includes some 26 major centres," Clyde-Smith added.
