Singapore Airlines will suspend services from Singapore to Abu Dhabi and Athens from October 26, reporting “sustained weak performance” on both routes.
The airline currently flies three times weekly to Abu Dhabi while Athens is served twice weekly, rising to three times between July and September.
The carrier described the decision as “difficult” but said the suspensions were in line with Singapore Airlines’ policy “to match capacity to prevailing market demand”.
It will continue to fly to Dubai with connections to Athens also “possible” with Star Alliance partner airlines.
Customers holding tickets issued prior to May 16 for travel after the end date will be eligible for refunds, without penalty.
Meanwhile, Virgin Atlantic revealed it would withdraw services between Nairobi and London by September, also
citing low demand, high fuel costs and rising UK aviation taxes as the drivers.
