Travel insurance firm SureSave has highlighted the potential risks of travelling in Asia, with the continent originating more than 50% of its total number of settled claims.
Only a quarter of policies sold cited Asia as the prime destination of travel, the firm revealed, with Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Cambodia notching up the highest frequency of claims.
Executive director Michael McAuliffe said travellers have a tendency to forget heightened dangers in overseas countries, and often take more risks when on holiday.
“Unfortunately, our claims experience reveals that common sense can, at times, be compromised whilst travelling,” he said.
Motorbike hire was highlighted as a key area for concern, with many riders unaware that they won’t be covered by their insurance policy if they do not have a motorbike licence in their home country.
