Tourism Australia has poached a senior manager from Tourism New Zealand to head up its critical China operation.
Tony Everitt, Tourism NZ’s general manager Asia, will swap allegiances in December when he will take the role of TA regional general manager for Greater China.
Tourism Australia managing director Andrew McEvoy said Everitt’s knowledge and understanding of China and Asia were key factors in the appointment.
The position covers Hong Kong and Taiwan in addition to Greater China.
“This is an important role for Tourism Australia and we’re delighted to have secured the talents of Tony who is an experiences destination marketer with over 20 years’ experience in the travel and tourism industry, including many years working and living in China,” he said.
Tim Jones, who will continue as acting GM until Everitt takes up the role, will return to his role of GM of international operations.
China is Australia’s second largest inbound market, generating $4.5b of revenue.
