Tiger Airways is returning to Tasmania as the low cost carrier continues its Australia expansion plan.

The airline will resume services between Melbourne and Hobart from November 1 with two daily return services. An additional daily service will operate during peak periods.

Marking today’s announcement with a one-off service to Hobart, Tiger Airways Australia chief executive Andrew David said the service represented an “important milestone” for the airline.

“Because the Melbourne to Hobart route has proven so popular with inbound and Tasmanian customers in the past, we are confident that demand for this sector in the future will be strong,” he said.

Tourism minister Scott Bacon said the flights will bolster the Tasmanian economy. “Access to our island state isn’t just important for tourism, it’s a fundamental requirement for our economy and our community,” he said.

One-way sale fares are now on sale from $45.95.
