The Queensland Government has named the top level committee tasked with reversing the fortunes of the state’s struggling tourism industry.
The working group, formed in the aftermath of last months DestinationQ Forum, will set about delivering objectives agreed at the conference to get Queensland “back on track”.
They include encouraging private sector investment, developing an ecotourism plan, reducing planning obstacles and red tape and promoting language skills and cultural awareness to meet the needs of tourists.
Among those appointed to the Post Forum Working Group are Queensland Tourism Industry Council chief executive Daniel Gschwind, Gold Coast Tourism Corporation chief executive Martin Winter, Caravaning Queensland chief executive Ron Chapman.
“More than 300 tourism delegates from across Queensland had unput into the 12 month Key Action Plan to revive the struggling industry,” state tourism minister Jann Stuckey said. “The Post-Forum Working Group is a top level industry and government led body that will ensure those pledges are carried forward.”
Stuckey will joint chair the group along with QTIC chairman Stephen Gregg and tourism department director general Richard Eden.
