Tourism New Zealand has opened a new office in Sao Paolo, Brazil, to ramp up its presence in the emerging markets of Latin America.
Research into the Latin American markets, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico, found Brazil offered the most potential, according to Tourism New Zealand’s chief executive Kevin Bowler.
“In the last couple of months we have undertaken a detailed analysis of the region’s potential for visitors to New Zealand,” Bowler stated. Interviews have been conducted with trade and industry experts including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise and Education NZ.
"At the same time, we have put into the field consumer studies in Chile and Brazil,” he added.
The research found that over half of Brazilian tourists visiting New Zealand for holiday purposes, stay 13 days on average.
According to Bowler, the research reveals great possibilities for the growth of the New Zealand tourism industry.
The opening of the new office in Brazil brings the total number of Tourism New Zealand offices to 13, with two of those located in New Zealand.
