Virgin's Velocity program has followed up Qantas' announcement of a pre-paid travel money card for frequent flyers with the unveiling of the Global Wallet – to be located on the flipside of its new-look membership card.
The new offering, due to launch in the coming months, is in partnership with Visa and will allow frequent flyer members to load money on their card and store it in multiple foreign currencies as well as Australian dollars.
The card will be accepted at the more than 30 million locations around the world where Visa is accepted and can be used to withdraw cash from more than 2 million ATMs around both Australia and the world.
Velocity chief executive Neil Thompson said the new offering underscores the program's proposition as a "multi-faceted program that pushed traditional boundaries".
"Not only will our cards be the access point to a range of Velocity benefits including seamless check-in, access to lounges and priority services, they will make spending in Australia and overseas an easier, more rewarding experience," he said.
More details about the Global Wallet will be revealed when it launches, he confirmed.
Meanwhile, Visa country manager Vipin Kalra highlighted a growing attraction among Australians towards "faster and smarter" payment methods.
"The Global Wallet is an innovative new product that will appeal to consumers looking for an easy way to make everyday purchases, as well as better manage their money while travelling overseas," he said.
