Virgin Australia will increase fuel surcharges in response to Australian and European Union carbon pricing schemes.
The charges on domestic services will apply to flights booked from March 1 for travel after July 1 and will vary from $1.50 per sector to $6 depending on the length of the flight.
All codeshare flights into and out of Europe operated by partner airline Etihad Airways will also be subject to a charge of $3 from March 1 to cover the cost of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme which was introduced on January 1.
