Airline sales representation firm World Aviation Systems (WAS) has made an unspecified number of redundancies and scaled back operations across Australia following a review of the business.
The restructure follows continual cost savings being explored by airlines which has impacted the business.
WAS general manager Kaylene Shuttlewood said it, too, had to look at “minimising costs and maximising productivity and earnings” in a tough global trading environment.
“We are reviewing all of our activities to ensure we are as efficient and effective as we can be, and where we can achieve improvements we are making changes,” she said.
An upgraded telecommunications system and a move towards greater automation are among the changes.
WAS declined to reveal numbers but said jobs have been cut through redundancy, natural attrition and redeployment to other parts of JTG.
Operations in Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth have been scaled back with all ticketing and reservations now handled in Sydney.
Sales and business development functions have been retained in all markets, WAS stressed.
Operations in NZ are unaffected.
Meanwhile, WAS has appointed former BA executive Thomas Scruby to the new role of head of commercial Australia and New Zealand to manage relationships with 15 airlines in Australia and 11 in NZ.
