Are you burdened with any extra bikes or spare parts cluttering up your yard?
Abercrombie & Kent (A&K) is looking to take them off your hands.
The luxury travel company will ship second-hand bikes and spare parts from Melbourne to the Duuma Wajane Bike Shop in Tanzania as part of a special philanthropic project.
According to A&K, travel comes with a unique responsibility to leave the world a better place, to respect the natural environment and positively impact lives and livelihoods in the communities where their guests travel.
That’s why they established A&K Philanthropy (AKP) in 1982 which today manages around 35 philanthropic projects across the globe.
Amongst these is the Bike Shop Programme which empowers local communities through mobility. Each bike shop employs five women, providing them with the opportunity to support their families through earned income.
AKP supports the operations of bike shops in Zambia, Botswana, Uganda, Jordan and Tanzania.
The company has invited staff, guests and partners to donate used bikes to the cause with two weekends in November designated for drop off at the Freight Logistics warehouse in Brooklyn.
