AccessibleOz, a LINK affiliate of the itravel network, is championing accessible holidays across Australia with inclusivity at the centre of its mission.
As part of this commitment, AccessibleOz travel advisor, Sam Homer, is journeying across Australia by caravan to audit accessibility across some of the nation’s most iconic destinations. Her findings form the AOZ Accessibility & Inclusion Index, Australia’s most comprehensive data-driven resource for accessible travel. This tool enables advisors to confidently recommend destinations that are safe, inclusive, and stress-free – so every client can plan their dream trip with confidence.
Homer began her journey in Brisbane this May, joined by her Cavoodle, Charlie, and has since explored Queensland and the Northern Territory, creating detailed itineraries for clients with diverse needs – including those who are deaf, blind, autistic, or with sensory sensitivities.
Highlights so far include the Kuranda Scenic Railway, with its wheelchair-accessible carriages; the Mamu Tropical Skywalk, a barrier-free rainforest walkway; and Darwin experiences such as Crocosaurus Cove, Hooked on Barra, and Darwin Gourmet Food Tours. These insights contribute to a growing national index designed to support advisors in curating dream holidays for all.
Next, Homer is spending several months exploring Western Australia and the remaining states in Australia before returning with a comprehensive national database of accessible travel products.
“It’s crucial for us to understand accessibility firsthand,” Homer said. “By experiencing hotels, tours, and attractions ourselves, we can give direct feedback to operators and help them move beyond a one-size-fits-all approach. The goal is to create real change, so every traveller feels supported.”
