Sydney’s Marriott Hotel has been rebranded as Pullman Sydney Hyde Park as Accor completes its acquisition of the Mirvac Group’s hotel network in Australia and New Zealand.

The hotel, previously managed by Mirvac, will receive a $7 million makeover including room renovations and upgrades to lobby and public areas.

Accor also plans to rebrand a number of Mirvac properties under the Pullman brand as it looks to capitalise on the brand’s success throughout the Asia Pacific.

“The brand has achieved great traction since launching in 2007 and is now a major player in Asia Pacific, Europe and South America,” chief operating officer for Accor Asia Pacific Michael Issenberg said. “With the planned re-branding of a number of existing Mirvac hotels to Pullman, it will become a real force in the Pacfic over the next two years.”

Accor expects there to be over 150 Pullman hotels across the globe by 2015, of which 60 will be in key areas across the Asia Pacific.

Meanwhile, Mirvac’s Sebel Newcastle Beach hotel will rebranded to Novotel Newcastle Beach in June, while the majority of Mirvac’s properties will remain under their existing brands.

The acquisition will add 43 hotels to Accor’s portfolio, bringing its total number of properties across Australia and New Zealand to 240.
