The ACT government has gotten right into the Christmas spirit and managed to maintain a sense of humour amid the ongoing restrictions for international arrivals.
According to a statement issued on the government’s website, acting ACT Chief Health Officer Dr Vanessa Johnston has refused the Grinch entry to the territory, stating a number of reasons why in the form of a poem.
Dr Johnston also announced a class exemption permitting Santa Claus and his North Pole support crew to enter the ACT without undergoing quarantine.
“The ACT is granting this exemption because Santa Claus and Mrs Claus have done an amazing job at being COVID Safe throughout the year,” she said.
“Santa and the North Pole support crew have followed all the public health advice to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
“This includes practising good hand and respiratory hygiene, physical distancing, staying home when they weren’t well, and getting tested when they had COVID-19 symptoms.”
Dr Johnston also added that Santa’s joy and generosity will extend to supporting local businesses.
“We appreciate that Santa has agreed to source his presents this year from Canberra businesses who have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. It also gives an opportunity for the elves to have some rest from his workshop,” she said.
