Viking has wrapped its latest trade famil taking travel advisors on an eight-day journey from Basel to Amsterdam.
Hosted by Viking commercial manager QLD Helen Mezzen, the ‘Rhine Getaway’ itinerary sailed through Switzerland, Germany, France and the Netherlands.
The famil was designed to give advisors first-hand experience of Viking’s river product, including the onboard experience, dining, itinerary flow and culturally immersive shore excursion program.
“It’s a perfect itinerary for first-time river cruise clients, and a great length to pair with a broader European trip. Sailing the Rhine in early spring was a highlight – from colourful gardens to tulips coming into bloom, it added another layer to the experience,” Mezzen said of the trip.

On board, advisors experienced Viking’s destination-focused dining with a themed German dinner, complete with a warm pretzel and Kölsch beer welcome and classic regional dishes like schnitzel, sausages, potatoes and sauerkraut.
Shore excursion highlights included a Privileged Access tour of the Cologne Cathedral, offering access to areas closed to the public. The group also explored the colourful city of Strasbourg on a guided walking tour through the historic centre.
Viking’s Rhine Getaway itinerary is well suited for first-time river cruisers, those wanting a shorter European cruise or clients who want to add a cruise to their broader Europe trip.
