AFTA and Entire call on travel industry to support flood relief

Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) has encouraged the travel sector to donate to the Australian Lions Foundation Nation Appeal and Entire Travel Group launched a floods appeal in light of the NSW and QLD floods.

AFTA CEO, Dean Long, said the call to action comes as AFTA has been overwhelmed with calls from members looking to help out.

“The generosity of the travel sector is legendary. AFTA has been overwhelmed by calls with members wanting to do something to help support their friends and their communities impacted by floods,” said Long.

“Like travel agents, in every community there are Lions volunteers who go above and beyond to make a difference. Every dollar raised in the Australian Lions Foundation’s National Disaster Appeal will be sent directly to local Lions Clubs so they can support those in need in their communities.”

Australian Lions Foundation chairperson, Tony Benbow, added to Long’s sentiments: “In times of disaster, Australian Lions Foundation is focused on getting emergency support to communities in need as quickly as possible.

“Right now, Queensland and Northern NSW needs our help. Our National Appeal is focused on getting emergency funds to local communities as quickly as possible.”

This comes as Entire announced it will donate $20 for every website booking made throughout March 2022, with all funds to be directed to the Australian Red Cross.

“Even though our industry is still emerging from its own crisis, I believe it is vital that travel companies do whatever they can to help stricken communities recover from this disaster,” said managing director Brad McDonnell.

The new appeal reflects Entire’s commitment to supporting initiatives for Aussie communities. During the last decade, the travel group has contributed more than $250,000 to a variety of Australian charities and appeals.
